Mu Zeta Omega has served the Stockton community for over 40 years  through our programs, partnerships and scholarships. To highlight some of our Trailblazers:

Wilhelmina Henry  -  “Wilhelmina Henry Elementary School”, Stockton Unified School District dedicated this K-8 school in October, 2006.  She was the first African American teacher hired in 1947  to teach in the Stockton Unified School District.  She taught for almost 50 years until her 1994 retirement.  

Dr. Juanita Favors Curtis - One of the first African Americans to teach at University of Pacific Stockton campus in 1964. She taught in the Gladys L. Bernard School of Education until 1983.

Clemmie Youth Award – The “Clemmie” Service Youth Award was created in 2008 in honor of Clemmie Owens and husband Harry by the Stockton Chapter of Links, Incorporated for their dedicated years of service to an outstanding music instruction program in the community. 

The Susan B. Anthony Award has been awarded to Wilihelmina Henry, Margaret C, Williams, Janie Reddish, Lajuana Bivens and Essie Gilchrist for outstanding service in our community.

Essie Gilchrist – President of the Stockton African American Chamber of Commerce in 1999, established the Women of Color Award.

Leslie Branco Martin, JD – Stockton Vice Mayor (2007-2008), 17th Assembly District’s Woman of the Year (2010) , Served on several committees during her City Council tenure.  President of Black Women for Political Action (BWOPA)

LaJuana Bivens – NAACP Area Director overseeing eleven (11) NAACP branches in the Central Valley for the State of California.
